Back in July, Ghostemane — a.k.a. the main creative outlet of self-described "transgenre" artist Eric Ghoste — announced his forthcoming eighth full-length, ANTI-ICON, the follow-up to 2018's stunning and abrasive N/O/I/S/E, for an October 21st release date. Today (August 26th), he dropped the LP's lead single, the stark, concussive "AI," along with its striking animated video. Directed by Nick Cinelli and animated by Studio Linguini and Venturia Animation Studios, the clip sees Ghostemane return to the stop-motion format of last year's gory "BONESAW" and "GATTEKA" visuals. "AI" takes things even further, blending Tim Burton-esque stop-motion with retro 2D animation.
According to Ghoste, ANTI-ICON encompasses "the rise and fall. Ecstasy in pain. The fragility of the quiet moments after the crash. The deafening silence filling your brain, forcing you to scream it away. The battles raging inside you. That's the sound of ANTI-ICON."
