See Gojira Debut Rare Studio Performance of "Global Warming"

Prog-metal band revisits 'From Mars to Sirius' standout 14 years after initial recording

French prog-metal stalwarts Gojira have shared pro-shot studio footage capturing a blistering live take on "Global Warming," a standout track from 2005's beloved full-length From Mars to Sirius. According to the band, the clip — shot in May at their self-operated Silver Cord Studio in New York City — marks one of the first times they've ripped through the anguished song since the album was first recorded back in 2004.

"A few weeks ago, we played 'Global Warming' together for the first time since the recording of From Mars to Sirius," the group explain. "We never played it live before, as it is a challenging one to play and place in a setlist. It's emotionally heavy and would almost 'hurt' the rest of the songs in a way." Over a decade later, with global warming showing no signs of slowing down any time soon, they've taken on the song as a reminder of one of mankind's biggest crises.

"Global warming is a reality and a relevant topic," they say somberly. "We feel it's good to be reminded of one of the most important challenges of our time: How to grow as a species without being a parasite to our planet, the only home we have. 'We will see our children growing' is a mantra for future generations, and in a figurative way, we hope the children in all of us will grow, evolve, and take action for a more compassionate and meaningful world."

Gojira are set to kick off a run of international shows behind 2016's album Magma later this week in their hometown of Biarritz, France, with dates scheduled through early August. Check out a full itinerary for the trek here. No word yet on whether "Global Warming" will make the setlist.
