2021 has been a big year for Gojira. Back in the spring, the French prog-metal titans unleashed their highly anticipated new album, Fortitude, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Album Sales chart. Throughout the fall, they've continued to ride that high by making their big return to the stage, and now they're giving us yet another reason to celebrate.

Today (October 28th), the band have unveiled a breathtaking animated music video for their Fortitude song, "Sphinx" — a track that sees the band acknowledging the baffling longevity and wisdom of the Egyptian statue that's been around for over 4,500 years. "May we lеarn from the old one/Standing tall in the sand/Witnеss erosion, the rise and fall of men," vocalist Joe Duplantier sings during one verse.

The video, directed by Zev Deans, offers more context to their story by depicting the band performing in front of the mighty beast and using their crushing metallic powers to summon some sort of ancient one from a far-off planet. You'll have to watch the whole thing above to find out what happens at the end, but it's a wild spectacle.
