Pop star and industrial icons reveal process behind 'If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power'

Last week, the popstar Halsey released her new album, If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power, an industrialized malestrom that's packed with production, songwriting and performances from Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.

It's one of the wildest embraces of heavy music from a major pop artist in recent memory, and now Halsey and the NIN boys have shared an hour-long conversation about their work together on the record. Moderated by journalist Lizzy Goodman, the talk about the album's process, Halsey's intentions and NIN' approach to the songs can be viewed above via YouTube.

Although a pop musician at Halsey's level tapping industrial-metal icons to produce a full album is definitely out of the ordinary, this is by no means Halsey's first embrace of heavy music. She appeared on Bring Me the Horizon's EP back in 2019, and in early 2020 she released a nu-metal-inflected song called "Experiment on Me."

Go listen to If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power. It rips.
