Ex-Metallica bassist also premiered 11 new songs of his own

Over the weekend (May 20th), former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted played live with his band Newsted for the first time in 10 years. Throughout the gig in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Newsted banged out 11 brand new, unreleased songs from the eponymous project, and then tore into a handful of covers that most notably included a rendition of Metallica's "Whiplash."

Interestingly, Newsted chose a song from his pre-Metallica days rather than something off of ...And Justice for All or the "Black Album," but he and his band cranked out a solid take on the Kill 'Em All standard, which you can watch above via YouTube.

Elsewhere in the covers block, Newsted played Motörhead's "Love Me Like a Reptile" and "(We Are) the Road Crew," as well as Ted Nugent's "Stranglehold" and the Ramones' "I Just Want to Have Something to Do."
