Jonathan Davis has brought fans a Halloween gift with a video for single "Basic Needs" from his first solo outing on Sumerian Records, Black Labyrinth. The video features the singer moving throughout a series of vignettes with grief-stricken strangers, giving them comfort before the scenes converge on a sort of Eastern spiritual ritual to match the experimental world music-flavored section of the song, where a montage of fiery scenes and belly dancers flash across the screen before focusing back on Davis singing alone in a dark room, hands folded pensively with a sadly wistful look on his face.
Of the video, which was made in conjunction with Homeless Health Care Los Angeles, Davis says, "'Basic Needs' is essentially as close as I get to writing a love song. It also gave me a chance to explore different instruments and styles of world music, and step outside of what may be considered 'the norm.' The two other videos I've released for this record have been telling a story in reverse. This video continues that pattern."
