Though they formed way back in 1992, Jungle Rot only this year finally released an eponymous album. Grounded in direct, acerbic political criticism and showcasing the band's thrashy groove-death skills, the self-titled rager is a collection of charged rally cries that make a perfect soundtrack for burning it all down. Fittingly, their video for particularly incendiary cut "A Burning Cinder" features a literal interpretation of just that.
The group takes the traditional performance angle and employs plenty of pyro to add insult to injury while spewing their blistering criticism of social discourse today: "The sheep they stay asleep, blissful ignorance/Misled by media, and lulled into a trance/Can't trust the government, the world has gone haywire/Out of the frying pan, and straight into the fire."
Jungle Rot frontman Dave Matrise says of the song, "I wanted to expand about the government trying to control, manipulate and force feed citizens into what we should believe in or not. It goes over really well live and we can't wait to continue playing it on the next tour."
The band have just one show left this year to promote their latest album, before they head back out in the spring for their first European tour in five years. Matrise enthuses that he's "very excited to get back to Europe and play our style of old-school metal to all the headbangers around." Jungle Rot is available on Victory Records now.
