2018 was a whirlwind for Iceland's chilliest post-punk export Kælan Mikla with their appearances at London's Meltdown Festival (curated by the Cure's Robert Smith) and the Netherland's Roadburn as well as the release of their stunning album Nótt eftir nótt. Still humming off the jolt of that buzz, the trio have now offered up a peek into the hazy, neon-noir atmosphere of their stage show with the release of a live video for "Hvernig kemst ég upp?" shot from a dizzying array of angles on their recent European tour. Draped in floaty black costumes and blending into the murky backdrop on stage, the witchy women in the clip hypnotize their audience amid a dizzying light show.
The new live video may be a good look at Kælan Mikla's show, but nothing can replace the real thing, of course, so the visual functions secondarily as a preview of the band's first-ever U.S. tour. Kicking off in Los Angeles at Robert Smith's Pasadena Daydream Festival, the trio will then come back across the country to enchant New York City at the annual goth and post-punk festival Murder of Crows on September 1st. They'll continue that run for three more weeks before winding up at Chicago's Cold Waves, another must-see for fans of the dark synth and death-rock underground.
