See Killswitch Engage's Emotional New "I Am Broken Too" Music Video

Singer Jesse Leach: "The video is a reflection of real-life events that loved ones have gone through"

Last month, Killswitch Engage dropped "I Am Broken Too" — the intense second single off the band's highly anticipated eighth album, Atonement — which addresses the issue of mental health head-on. Today, August 5th, the band has offered up a full-concept video for the song, which does the same from a cinematic perspective. The clip was directed by Kyle Cogan and Zack Stauffer of SIMIAN.LA (A Perfect Circle, Breaking Benjamin) and shot in the L.A. area.

"The video is a reflection of real-life events that loved ones have gone through," Killswitch singer Jesse Leach commented of the visual. "Kyle Cogan and Zack Stauffer did an amazing job of bringing it all to life. The result is a powerful video that captures the essence and desperation of the song."

"That song still makes me well up in tears," Leach told Revolver of "I Am Broken Too" in a recent interview. "It's not about me, it's about somebody else, but me saying to them, 'Look you've been trying to pretend you're OK, and I know you're not.' That line, 'If you need proof/I will reopen my wounds,' I had just written that and Adam [Dutkiewicz, Killswitch's guitarist and producer] was like, 'No you have to bring that in, it's powerful.' And I'm proud of that song especially. I want to speak to people and I wanna let them know they're not alone. I can't help it."

Killswitch are donating a portion of the proceeds from the song to Hope for the Day, a Chicago-based non-profit organization that focuses on suicide prevention by providing outreach and mental health education through the use of music and art. Stream "I Am Broken Too" above. Atonement is due August 16th via Metal Blade Records.
