In 2001, Kittie were faced with the challenge of following up the surprise success of their 2000 debut, Spit. They did so by injecting a heavier, death-metal attack into what had been a very of-the-era nu-metal sound. "Then we listened to bands like Nirvana, Silverchair, and Alice in Chains," singer-guitarist Morgan Lander said, looking back at Spit. "Now we listen to stuff like Cannibal Corpse and Nile."
The resulting album, Oracle, played out such influences with gruffer vocals and gnarlier instrumentation — including on the LP's cover of Pink Floyd's "Run Like Hell." The Wall standout always had a metallic edge, but in Kittie's hands, it became a full-fledged mosh-pit stomper.
A month after Oracle's October release, Kittie rocked Harpo's in Detriot, Michigan, where they opened their set with their Floyd take. The crushing performance was filmed, and the footage later appeared as a video on MTV2's Headbangers Ball and other heavy-music TV programming. Watch above.
