See Kittie's Unhinged Performance of "Brackish" on 'Conan' in 2000

"Four teenage girls who are definitely not looking to become the next Britney Spears"

On February 23rd, 2000, a little over a month after the release of their debut LP, Spit, Kittie appeared as the musical guests on Late Night With Conan O'Brien. The performance was just another step in a whirlwind year that would see the young Canadian band touring North America with Slipknot and playing Ozzfest with Pantera and the Prince of Darkness himself.

Introing Kittie, O'Brien described them succinctly as "four teenage girls from London, Ontario, who are definitely not looking to become the next Britney Spears," and the group delivered on this billing, launching into Spit's lead single "Brackish" with claws drawn. Vocalist Morgan Lander opened with an animalistic roar while her bandmates — guitarist Fallon Bowman, bassist Talena Atfield and drummer (and Morgan's sister) Mercedes — sunk their teeth into the cut's bouncy, downtuned instrumentation. Throwback to the milestone nu-metal moment above.
