See Knocked Loose Unleash Blue Hell in New "Mistakes Like Fractures" Video

Rising hardcore leaders deliver transcendent heaviness on raging single

It's been a minute since we've heard new material from Oldham County hardcore crew Knocked Loose. Since the release of their debut album, Laugh Tracks, in 2016, it wouldn't be a stretch to say that their heavy, extremely aggro take on metallic hardcore has spawned its own vibrant mini-scene, of which Knocked Loose are, of course, at the center. After touring the world, the quartet has finally released new music in the form of the single "Mistakes Like Fractures" — which premiered on SiriusXM yesterday and appears on a three-track 7-inch released today — and now the group has dropped its video.

"Mistakes Like Fractures" reveals a wrecking crew that has really honed in on what the "metallic" part of the "metallic hardcore" equation means, upping their riff-game substantially. There are parts of the song that pierce with a heaviness akin to that of Entombed's Wolverine Blues, but Knocked Loose easily shift their weight into a guttural metalcore chug. On the video front, the shots cut between footage of the band members multiplying and generally crushing, and clips of a man losing control of his life as everything around him becomes more and more blue — literally. The song swells in intensity as things press on, their penchant for fucking riffs taking center stage.

Of course, it would not be a Knocked Loose song without an absolutely disgusting breakdown and goddamn do they deliver. Things slow to a halt and singer Bryan Garris, in a very desperate scream, bellows, "I followed the rabbit, and I found my fucking end," and then all hell is unleashed. The guitars get low and pummeling, Garris is in a total rage, and blue paint splatters everything around. It's transcendent heaviness. This is Knocked Loose's time.

"'Mistakes Like Fractures' is about not being able to let go — something we think a lot of people can relate to," Garris says of the song.
