Last month, Korn's OG bassist Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu announced that he wouldn't be playing with the band on their upcoming tour dates. In a candid Facebook post, the 51-year-old revealed that he's been struggling with some personal issues that have caused him to return to some of his old "bad habits," and that he's taking an indefinite amount of time away from the band to work on recovering.
In the meantime, Korn tapped Suicidal Tendencies' Roberto "Ra" Díaz to fill in on their summer 2021 shows, and over the weekend they played their inaugural gig with the new (temporary) lineup. On July 16th, Diaz joined Jonathan Davis and the gang on-stage at Upheaval Festival in Grand Rapids, MI, and the above HD footage shows him keeping things low-tuned and funky just the way Fieldy likes it.
The song they're playing in the three-minute clip is "No Way" from Korn's 1999 album, Issues, and if you close your eyes it basically sounds exactly like it would if Fieldy was up there plucking along. While we obviously hope that the band's founding bassist takes the time he needs and then returns to the band refreshed and ready to go, it's comforting to know that they're in good hands as they play their first shows post-pandemic.
