See Man Undone by Dark Seductress in Counterparts' Cinematic New Video

Clip accompanies title track of hardcore crew's new LP 'You're Not You Anymore'

Canada has an extremely strong hardcore and punk scene, especially when it comes to bands pushing the envelope as to the definition of the word. Bands such as Fucked Up, SHIT and Career Suicide have all redefined the meaning of "punk" over the past decade, ushering in a new breed of groups that have spotted the widened doorway and run through it.

One such band is Hamilton, Ontario-based crew Counterparts. Their latest offering is the beautifully shot video for "You're Not You Anymore" — the sprawling title track of their new album, it feels like one giant crescendo. Displaying a strong sense of melodicism buried deep within the hardcore pummel, the track feels urgent and emotional (notice we left the short version of the latter word out) without ever veering into an overly sappy cry-fest. Yes, it's still brutal, but brutal in a way that defies convention. FFO: Converge,Thursday, Touché Amore

"The YNYA video is a fairly drastic change for us," vocalist Brendan Murphy says of the track and the video. "We are the 'who gives a shit' band when it comes to most things other than writing music, so to be able to dabble in such an artistic and professional realm is very cool. The director, Josh Halling, killed it and it feels like we made a mini movie as opposed to a music video. It's a nice break from our usual performance-heavy video style and I hope you all enjoy it."
