Marilyn Manson has unveiled a disturbing visual for "WE KNOW WHERE YOU FUCKING LIVE," the new single off his upcoming album, Heaven Upside Down. The grainy clip takes the track's title literally, as the shock rocker — accompanied, naturally, by a pack of machine gun-toting nuns sporting bondage getups — subjects a couple and their daughter to an evening of torture at their quaint, surburban home. After stalking their prey from afar, Manson and the women hold the family hostage, and the blasphemous, X-rated games begin. Just in case the video's opening disclaimer wasn't clear enough, a word of caution: Between the living-room orgies and the backyard assassinations, "WE KNOW WHERE YOU FUCKING LIVE" is definitely NSFW.
Revolver's Dan Epstein talked to Manson a few weeks ago and we asked him about the video, which had just been completed at the time. Here's what he had to say:
REVOLVER You just finished the new video for "We Know Where You Fucking Live." Can you tell us a bit about it?
MARILYN MANSON I just saw the completion of the edit last night, and I was genuinely amazed to see two people that know me very well watching it with a look of awe. I said, "What's wrong? Is it too shocking and upsetting?" He said, "I didn't think that was possible!" And there was a girl who was with me — we'll call her "a girl," because I like to generalize now about my personal life — and she said, "I'm scared that people are going to want to kill you because of this." And then she said, "I'm also scared that every girl in the world is going to want to fuck you." [Laughs]
A win-win, in other words.
I don't think my dad would have wanted me to go out any other way! [Laughs] I don't like polluting music with videos that might distract too much from what the listener might perceive the song as. But with "We Know Where You Fucking Live," I came in strong with guns a-blazing — and when I say that, I mean literally, because I was using several firearms in the video. And there was a bazooka — a mortar launcher, actually — fired into a mini-van by a pack of nuns in a home-invasion type situation. Ironically, the same day we filmed it, two girls dressed as nuns tried to rob a bank in Pennsylvania and failed. I had no involvement in that — it was not my idea to use that as promotion for my video!
