Marilyn Manson was a wild-card choice for Travis Scott's second annual music festival Astroworld — which went down on Saturday, November 9th, in Houston, Texas — but the shock rocker is maybe most at home where he seemingly doesn't fit, and he delivered a brief but beautiful six-song set at the hip-hop-dominated event. Fans may have been gathered to see rap and pop superstars such as Migos, Megan Thee Stallion and Pharrell Williams, but they embraced Manson nonetheless.
Likewise, Manson seemed to be thoroughly enjoying himself, as seen in the array of behind-the-scenes photos and videos that hit social media. "I love Travis for being a genius," he proclaims in one video (seen below), "for thinking of doing something crazy like that." The singer documented his experience on Instagram, posting a mix of pics — of him posing with security guards, his "favorite comedian" Dave Chapelle and others — and clips of himself maneuvering through the crowd, including more than a few slack-jawed onlookers, as he relished bringing a bit of the unexpected to the sold-out event.
Concertgoers went wild for Manson's hit-filled mini-set, especially when he dropped his creeped-up cover of the Eurythmic's "Sweet Dreams" mid-show. Despite the track's deliberate pace, a mosh pit broke out as fans held up their phones and recorded the body-slamming action, as seen in the clip below.
