See Megadeth Salute Vinnie Paul With Rare "My Last Words" Performances

Big 4 thrashers honored late Pantera drummer at two recent festivals stops

Big 4 thrashers Megadeth paid their respects to late, iconic drummer Vinnie Paul on tour this past weekend with two powerful renditions of "My Last Words," a 1986 ripper last performed by Dave Mustaine and Co. in 2010. They played the Peace Sells... But Who's Buying? closer once at Graspop Metal Meeting in Belgium on June 23rd, and again at France's Hellfest yesterday (June 24th).

"We haven't played this song for a very long time," Mustaine told the crowd on the latter occasion. "We dedicated it to a friend of mine – all of ours — who passed away. This song is dedicated to you, Vinnie." Professionally shot video of the Hellfest take has since surfaced; check it out now. (The fan-filmed Graspop footage, which you can check out below, proves much shakier, but hey — at least the audio's tight!)

Megadeth join a long line of noteworthy metal musicians who paid tribute to Paul at this year's Hellfest; Avenged Sevenfold and Alice in Chains also ripped through emotional takes on "Hail to the King" and "Nutshell," respectively, in the drummer's honor. Other artists who've shared remembrances since the Pantera co-founder's June 22nd passing include Korn's Brian "Head" Welch, Lamb of God's Randy Blythe and Chris Adler, Halestorm's Lzzy Hale, and Anthrax's Charlie Benante, just to name a few.

Like many in the metal community, Mustaine and Megadeth honored Paul on social media, as well. Find those reflections below.
