Vic Rattlehead strikes again

Megadeth have unveiled a violent new visual for "Lying in State," a grim highlight off the band's 2016 album Dystopia. Directed by award-winning Brazilian filmmaker Leo Liberti, the clip follows the thrashers' skeletal mascot, Vic Rattlehead, as he liberates a boy from an ominous graveyard overrun with baddies. After crossing paths with Dave Mustaine and Co., he unsheathes a katana engraved with "Rust in Peace" — a shout-out to Megadeth's legendary 1990 album) — and proceeds to unleash hell on the boy's captors, samurai style.

"When we were on tour in São Paulo in 2016, we filmed the 'Conquer or Die' video," Mustaine told Rolling Stone. "We were so impressed with Brazilian award-winning director Leo Liberti, that we had him do the 'Lying in State' video as well. We had several friends and fans of the band, as well as the production crew, play roles in the video. Huge thanks goes to [Megadeth lead guitarist] Kiko Loureiro for introducing us to Leo. I especially like how bad ass Vic was with the sword. Who knew?"

Megadeth's latest clip signals the beginning of the band's ongoing 35th anniversary celebrations, with more releases and events planned for the coming months. To further mark the milestone, Mustaine — who has reportedly begun work on the band's Dystopia follow-up — is planning special episodes of his weekly "Gimme Radio" show, some of which will feature contests and giveaways. Tune in Thursdays at 3 p.m. Eastern.
