See Metallica's Brand New "Master of Puppets" Animated Lyric Video

Thrash lords dropped eye-popping visual for 1986 song following 'Stranger Things' resurgence

Nobody would've guessed that Metallica's "Master of Puppets" would be the song of summer of 2022, but thanks to its widely-watched placement in Stranger Things season four, it happened. In case you've been living under a rock, the track was performed by the show's high-school hesher protagonist Eddie Munson in a dramatic face-off against the evil Vecna, and since then, "Master of Puppets" has seen a massive resurgence among young and old listeners alike — and Metallica are loving it.

After dropping a TikTok duet video of them playing along with Munson's scene and rejecting gatekeeping metalheads by saying "everyone is welcome in the Metallica family," they've now kept the flame burning by unveiling a brand new lyric video for the 1986 song.

The animated visual features eye-popping graphics from ILOVEDUST, who's done work for Ozzy Osbourne and the Foo Fighters. It's not a proper music video with footage of the band, but it does contain some interesting interpretations of the iconic Master of Puppets cover art and a bunch of other wild visual tricks.
