See Metallica's Crushing First-Ever "The Frayed Ends of Sanity" Live Performance

Thrashers debut clip from 2014 Helsinki show ahead of '...And Justice for All' 30th anniversary box set

Metallica's most recent offering from the archives coming via the ...And Justice For All 30th anniversary box set is their first ever performance of "The Frayed Ends of Sanity," filmed in 2014 in Helsinki, Finland. While multi-camera footage shows the enormous crowd is being pummeled by a moderate but seemingly unrelenting rain, the band's intensity while playing the intense track never waivers.

Lyrically dealing with mental health struggles and the paranoia that can manifest form them, the track features a lengthy and tremendous solo by Kirk Hammett on his ESP limited signature White Zombie electric guitar. The eight-minute epic was part of the encore that day at Sonisphere and ended with drummer Lars Ulrich standing up from his kit to "leave" the stage right before the thrash legends returned to give the grateful crowd two more encores.
