Back in early 2016, Metallica were holed up in their San Rafael, California HQ working on their tenth album, Hardwired… to Self-Destruct. On May 29th, their old buddies Corrosion of Conformity were playing across the bay in Oakland and James Hetfield decided to swing by and catch the show. Fans at the historic Fox Theater got a special treat that night, when Hetfield jumped onstage for a surprise guest performance.

Hetfield took the stage for "Seven Days," and added some of his signature guitar (and background vocal) heft to the heavy, grooving jam from the North Carolina stoner-sludge crew's 1994 album Deliverance.

At that point, Metallica and COC had a well-established rapport, as evidenced by COC's fun-loving "Hetsploitation" description of the "Seven Days" performance. The Big Four kings regularly took Pepper Keenan and Co. out on tour during the mid-Nineties and Hetfield contributed backup vocals on COC's "Man or Ash" (from 1996's Wiseblood) while Keenan guested on Metallica's cover of Skynyrd's "Tuesday's Gone" (from 1998's Garage Inc.).
