Today (November 28th), Metallica surprised the world with the announcement of a brand new album, 72 Seasons — the follow-up to 2016's Hardwired... to Self-Destruct — and the premiere of the throwback lead single "Lux Æterna."

Drummer Lars Ulrich broke the news on SiriusXM's The Howard Stern Show this morning, as well as discussing the metal stalwarts' impending two-year-long M72 World Tour, plus that big "Master of Puppets" scene in season four of Netflix's Stranger Things. "It was such a mindfuck to see how that became a phenomenon … It was totally unexpected," Ulrich told Stern. "Who would've thought 40 years later that these songs could still have that impact? … We were psyched to be part of it."
