See Nine Inch Nails Cover Joy Division, Debut New Song "Ahead of Ourselves"

Trent Reznor and Co. take on post-punk pioneers' "Digital" in Vegas

Nine Inch Nails' cover of Joy Division's "Dead Souls" on The Crow soundtrack is one of their most intense and impactful tracks, and when delivered live it's all the more powerful. Last night (June 16th) Trent Reznor and Co. played the last of three shows in Las Vegas and surprised concertgoers with a take on an entirely different Joy Division composition — 1978 single "Digital," which also happens to be the final song ever played by proto-goth post-punks, at a May 2nd, 1980, gig at Birmingham University, before singer Ian Curtis' fateful suicide. See fan-shot footage of NIN's rendition above.

The band also gave one of their own songs, "Ahead of Ourselves," its live debut, which you can see below. The studio version of the cut will be included on Nine Inch Nails' forthcoming album Bad Witch, which is due out this Friday, June 22nd.
