See Ozzy Osbourne, Motörhead and Megadeth Play First-Ever Virtual Ozzfest

Ozzfest returned last week and through the weekend, as part of the Metaverse Music Festival in the Decentraland virtual world. It was the first time that Ozzy Osbourne's festival was held since 2018, the first time it had ever taken place virtually, and the first time a deceased artist — Motörhead's Lemmy Kilmister, in avatar form — had performed as one of the co-headlining acts.

If you ever wondered what a metaverse music fest might look like, you can get your taste above and below. Like Lemmy, Ozzy also performed as a solo avatar, no Randy Rhoads or Zakk Wylde backing him, while Megadeth and Skid Row appeared via the respective group's music videos. As for the concertgoers, they appeared as a phantasmagorical array of avatars, mostly swaying and prancing along to the music, not a mosh pit to be seen. Indeed, the whole thing was about as far from the sweaty, gnarly, visceral real life experience of an Ozzfest that one could imagine. It's a strange new world.
