All hail Pantallica!

On July 15th, 1994, Pantera were at the heights of their powers, playing in support of that year's No. 1 album Far Beyond Driven in San Jose, California. Just as the Cowboys from Hell approached the end of their set at the Event Center Arena, they invited a fellow rock icon to join them on the stage — Metallica bassist Jason Newsted — to form an ad hoc supergroup that Philip Anselmo cleverly dubbed "Pantallica."

The all-star collective first ripped through a raucous rendition of Kill 'Em All standout "Seek and Destroy" that saw Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell swapping vocal duties with Anselmo (watch below). If that didn't blow concertgoers' minds enough, the gobsmacked crowd was in for another, possibly even bigger and better treat.

Next, after some rough-housing between Newsted and bassist Rex Brown over their shared instrument, Pantallica kicked into another Kill 'Em All classic: "Whiplash." But they took the role-swapping next level this time, with Anselmo taking up Dime's guitar and Dime fully taking up lead vocals — and both of them killing it. "Acting like a maniac," indeed. Flashback to the historic performance above.
