See Pantera's "Cemetery Gates" Played in Style of Type O Negative

A goth-metal take on Texas greats' classic power ballad

Pantera and Type O Negative were great friends and occasional tour mates back in the day, with Philip Anselmo sometimes jumping onstage to join Peter Steele and Co. for "Black No. 1" and "Kill All the White People." But the Brooklyn goth-metal stalwarts never got the chance to repay the favor by putting their morbid spin on one of Pantera's songs.

YouTuber Denis Puana has brought that great hypothetical to life by covering "Cemetery Gates" in the style of Type O Negative, and the results are as spine-tingling as you might hope.

Puana's reimagining of the Texans' classic power ballad slows the song into a doomy, down-tempo ode straight out of the Drab Four's playbook. There's Steele's sepulchral croak and Josh Silver's spooky keyboards, and even the band's Beatles-esque vocal harmonies pop up. It's a stellar take that makes us miss Type O all the more. Watch and listen above.
