See Poppy Debut Thrilling New Song "EAT" Live at Grammys

"Best Metal Performance" nominee lit up Premiere Ceremony

Poppy has been promising a new sonic approach for the follow-up to 2020's critically acclaimed, metal-charged I Disagree LP, and tonight (March 14th) at the Grammys, we got a taste of what's to come. The self-described "post-genre" artist — who was nominated for "Best Metal Performance" for I Disagree's "BLOOD MONEY" — performed at the Premiere Ceremony prior to the main televised event, unleashing an all-new song titled "EAT."

Fans hoping that she retains I Disagree's hard-hitting edge should be very pleased. Far from the dreamy slowcore of her stop-gap December EP, A Very Poppy Christmas, "EAT" is a glitchy, electro-punk rager not far-flung from the Dillinger Escape Plan at their catchiest (think "Milk Lizard"), and Poppy delivered it onstage amid pyrotechnic blasts befitting the song's fire-spitting cadence. She might not have won a Grammy — Ice-T's metal band Body Count took home the trophy in her category — but she did her best to steal the show. Watch above.
