See Primordial Creatures Reign in the Ocean's Trippy New "Cambrian II" Video

"Cambrian II: Eternal Recurrence" appears on forthcoming LP 'Phanerozoic I: Palaeozoic'

Just over a week away from releasing their full-length Phanerozoic I: Palaeozoic, German progressive metal collective the Ocean have debuted a stunning video for "Cambrian II: Eternal Reccurence." The crushing track incorporates almost symphonic vocal refrains among the hefty discordant post-metal riffs and chaotic percussion, interspersed with a touch of synth to accentuate the dynamic range. Visual accompaniment here relies on lead singer Loic Rosetti's total transformation into a Lichen-like creature among flashing collages of primordial soup and Trilobite creatures from (what would stand to reason) represents the Cambrian explosion.

The thematic consistency falls in line with The Ocean's focus on creating era-specific albums that coordinate with pre-human existence. Magmatic ooze and fiery planets from afar leave impress a sense of wonder about our own planet's past, leaving the viewer to ponder the nature of evolution and creation itself. That The Ocean and the video's conceptual engineer Craig Murray were able to build this using simplistic items like makeup, black fabric, and a whole lot of creativity speaks volume on the skill of those involved.

Check out an behind-the-scenes shot of the filming process below, and pick up Phanerozoic I: Palaeozoic when it drops November 2nd via Metal Blade Records.
