See Pro Video of Metallica Playing "Phantom Lord" at Zazula Tribute Show

Setlist only featured songs off 'Kill 'Em All' and "Ride the Lightning'

Last Sunday (November 6th), Metallica played an intimate, throwback show celebrating the life and legacy of Megaforce Records founder Jon "Jonny Z" Zazula and his wife, Marsha, who died in 2022 and 2021, respectively. Megaforce launched Metallica's career by releasing their first two albums, 1983's Kill 'Em All and 1984's Ride the Lightning, before they signed to major label Elektra.

The tribute concert went down at the 7,000-capacity Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, and the thrash pioneers' set was exclusively comprised of songs off the aforementioned albums — including Kill 'Em All standout "Phantom Lord."

Today (November 9th), Metallica offered up awesome, professionally filmed footage of said song performance. It's a fun, loose run-through, intro'd by James Hetfield, who jokes about possibly playing more old material and relays the story of how Phantom Lord was originally a pretend band between him and his friend. Kicking into the song, the band then fuck up the intro. Watch above.
