'72 Seasons' standout got live debut in Munich

On May 26th in Munich, Germany, Metallica surprised fans with the live debut of 72 Seasons' epic, 11-minute opus "Inamorata." Today (June 7th), the thrash pioneers offered up professionally-filmed footage of the momentous performance.

The group's longest studio track to date, "Inamorata" popped up about midway through Metallica's set. "This next song, we have never, ever played live before," James Hetfield introduced it. "And, y'know, in our band we don't recognize the word 'mistake,' because there are no mistakes, there's just unique moments that happen, alright? That's what we need to tell ourselves.

"This one is from 72 Seasons — it's one of my favorites, so I'm gonna like it."

In addition to "Inamorata," that night's show also included the tour debuts of early thrasher "Hit the Lights" and 'Tallica's cover of Budgie's "Breadfan," while also homing in on mega-hits like "Enter Sandman" and "One." You can check out the full setlist at Setlist.fm.

Metallica's M72 World Tour continues across Europe via a series of two-night "No Repeat Weekends" until August, at which point they cap the summer with a series of North American dates. You can see the full itinerary here.
