Anyone who has listened to Rage Against the Machine's revolutionary 1992 self-titled debut — whether an old-school fan of the band or a newbie to the cause — knows that the record's sixth track is one of its highlights, due in no small part to the mesmerizing vocal breakdown provided by guest singer Maynard James Keenan. "I've got no patience now/So sick of complacence now/Sick of you/Time has come to pay," the Tool singer intones, punctuating his cameo with a gut-wrenching scream for the ages.
Keenan had jammed with members of Rage Against the Machine at their rehearsal space before the making of the album and may have even been in the running to become the band's frontman — though, he says, it wasn't the right fit. "They were looking for a more serious approach, so I think that was pretty much immediate," he told Rolling Stone in 2016. "If there was a consideration for that at all, it was very brief."
Aside from rehearsing and recording with Rage, the singer also joined them onstage multiple times over the years to recreate the "Know Your Enemy" collaboration live. One notable such joint venture took place in 1994 at the Glastonbury Festival in the U.K. Watch it above in all its dreadlocks-meet-mohawk glory.
