See Russian Circles' First-Ever Music Video: "Gnosis"

Title track off upcoming album arrives with dark, dystopian visual

Formed in 2004, Russian Circles are nearing the two-decade mark, and yet they've never released a music video — until now. Today (August 10th), the revered instrumental metal trio offered up the title track off their upcoming album, Gnosis, and, with it, their first-ever video, directed and edited by Joe Kell. Considering the winding, slow-burning song is over eight minutes long, the visual is more like a short film — one full of dark, surreal imagery that explores the true meaning of the word "Gnosis," defined by the dictionary as "knowledge of spiritual mysteries." Watch and listen above.

"'Gnosis' is a special song that has grown with us over a number of years," the band commented. "The main theme of the song was re-conceptualized so many times that it provided nearly endless arrangement options. It's rewarding to see such a minimal song idea evolve into one of our most dynamic and fully-realized songs to date.

"When discussing a concept for the video, we agreed we wanted cinematic footage of nature and humanity. Ultimately, we wanted the video to feel fresh and inspiring despite dealing with a dark theme. Similarly, we wanted to compel viewers to rewatch the video and get something new from each viewing. Somehow, editor Joe Kell masterfully made this all happen."

Gnosis is due out August 19th via Sargent House.
