See Serj Tankian, Prophets of Rage Cover Audioslave in Tribute to Chris Cornell

SOAD frontman joined Tom Morello and Co. onstage in New Zealand

Rap-rock supergroup Prophets of Rage are wrapping up their world tour behind last year's self-titled debut with a string of dates across the Pacific. The trek might be winding down, but the band has surprises still hidden up their sleeve, as evidenced by their concert at Auckland, New Zealand's Spark Arena night, March 20th. Partway through their set, Tom Morello and Co. brought out System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian to perform an electrifying cover of Audioslave's "Like A Stone" in honor of the band's late frontman, Chris Cornell.

"Not too long ago we lost a very close friend of ours, Chris Cornell. Please show him some appreciation," Morello told the crowd beforehand, turning the mic stand around to amplify their cheers. "We miss him very much, and we'd like to do this song in his memory."

This marks the second time Prophets of Rage have tapped Tankian to perform Audioslave's alt-rock anthem; they debuted the cover last June at the Rock Am Ring festival in Germany. Prophets of Rage obviously have deep personal ties to the song and Cornell — the supergroup's ranks include three of the band's original members, Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk.

Prior to their onstage meet-up and performance, Tankian and Morello — longtime friends — took advantage of their lush surroundings and snapped the selfie below:
