With John 5's current solo tour wrapping up next Sunday, April 14th, in San Diego before the shredder heads back out with Rob Zombie for a summer tour, he and his band the Creatures pulled out some all-star action at a recent Los Angeles show at the Whiskey A Go Go featuring some of the guitarists' friends and idols like Slipknot front man Corey Taylor, former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, System of a Down bassist Shavo Odadjian and Cinderella drummer Fred Coury.
Taylor, Anthony and Coury all came onstage following a long and excited introduction by John 5, followed by the stacked lineup blazing through Van Halen classic "Runnin' With the Devil." Taylor's impressive delivery is a dead ringer for David Lee Roth's late Seventies vocal range (even those falsetto notes), and the stoked crowd echoes the famous chorus loudly with increased fervor each time.
The fun didn't stop there, though, and the one-off supergroup also tore it up with "You Really Got Me," made famous by the Kinks in 1964 but later dirtied up by Van Halen on their 1978 eponymous record. One more song by the iconic glam metallers made the cut, the bluesy 1980 track "Take Your Whiskey Home."
Another fan-filmed clip shows John 5 welcoming Shavo Odadjian after calling the four-stringer "my buddy, my great buddy who I love so much." The two take the prop-strewn stage for a rousing instrumental version of Michael Jackson's 1982 classic "Beat It," with the guitarist's skillful riffing standing in for the main vocal part while Odadjian held down the melody on bass.
