See Stone Sour Take Funereal Journey in Somber New "St. Marie" Video

Corey Taylor and Co.'s latest 'Hydrograd' visual grapples with life, death, memory

Stone Sour have premiered a somber new clip for "St. Marie," their county-rock ballad off last year's album Hydrograd. Directed by Marc Klasfield and based on a concept by frontman Corey Taylor, the clip follows the group on a somber trip through the American southwest, paying respects to the dead along the way; after stopping at a roadside memorial, they encounter several mourners in a diner, whom they join for a bonfire on the beach. The travelogue concludes with the band standing atop a cliff with their bereaved companions, scattering the ashes of the fallen over the California hills.

Taylor outlined the video's concept in an accompanying interview with Billboard, framing it as a parable on love and loss. "The video is kind of about a journey, which is really what this song is about in the first place," he said. "It's a journey — trying to find redemption in a place where maybe there is none to find. There's a lot of judgment in the video that is kind of being resolved in the end by the fact we all end up at the same place in our lives, no matter what, so it's best to just let go of that resentment and find our way happily instead of morosely, I guess."

Stone Sour are set to hit the road later this month for a headlining North American tour. The trek kicks off April 28th in Jacksonville, Florida, with dates scheduled through late May; it precedes the Iowans' stint on Ozzy Osbourne's North American farewell tour, which kicks off in September.
