See Suicidal Tendencies' Explosive "You Can't Bring Me Down" Performance in 1993

SoCal hardcore crew unleashes 'Lights ... Camera … Revolution!' standout at Madrid stadium show

Suicidal Tendencies came out strong with their 1983 self-titled debut — a ripping classic that contained the crossover thrash anthem "Institutionalized." The rest of the decade saw a few more albums, lineup changes and stylistic shifts from the Suicidal camp. But by the dawn of the Nineties the band — singer Mike Muir, guitarists Rocky George and Mike Clark, bassist (and future Metallica member) Robert Trujillo and drummer R.J. Herrera — had found their footing.

The result is heard on their fifth full-length 1990's Lights … Camera … Revolution! — an absolute banger that was an instant fan favorite, and also a serious level-up moment for the SoCal crew. The record, which saw the band leaning into their thrashier, proggier and funkier tendencies, received a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance and would later go on to become certified Gold. Lights … Camera … Revolution! contained a grip of crushing, catchy singles, including "Send Me Your Money," "Lovely," "Alone" and "You Can't Bring Me Down" (the video for which received heavy airplay on MTV).

Suicidal soon found themselves expanding their audience base thanks to shows with Pantera, Exodus, Jane's Addiction and their appearance on the European Clash of the Titans tour in 1990 with Megadeth, Slayer and Testament.

"Suicidal Tendencies' 1990 album, Lights… Camera… Revolution was a game-changer," wrote ex–Dillinger Escape Plan/current Suicidal guitarist Ben Weinman on Instagram. "I'll never forget going across town to this dude's house with a halfpipe and skating to this album. Before that, I was mostly listening to industrial and New wave. ST made me want to play guitar. I played that cassette tape so much it would pitch up and down from the wear and tear. Somehow I now play guitar in this band. What the $%&:-!"

On June 18th, 1993, Suicidal Tendencies performed at Rayo Vallecano in Madrid, Spain, as the supporting act for Metallica's European tour. Above, watch the band light up that stadium with their explosive run-through of Lights… Camera… Revolution standout "You Can't Bring Me Down."
