In 2011, TOOL invited Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett onstage at their show in Honolulu, Hawaii, for an unexpected medley of one beloved TOOL song and a classic Metallica track. This wasn't the first time the two parties joined forces onstage, as TOOL had Hammett join them for a "Sober" jam in Hawaii back in 2006 (Hammett owns a house in Hawaii), but this time a fan was there to capture the magic on camera.
During the 2011 performance, the group began playing TOOL's nine-minute song, "Lateralus" — the title-track from their 2001 album — and then suddenly transitioned into "Orion," the gorgeous instrumental that resides on Metallica's 1986 thrash masterpiece, Master of Puppets. Eventually, in a swift showing of expert musicianship, the gang make their way back into "Lateralus" Shit like that doesn't happen every day. Watch it go down above via YouTube.
