TOOL are unpredictable on-camera personalities now, and they always have been. Take this clip from MTV's Headbangers Ball, which was filmed in the parking lot of Lollapalooza 1993, just a couple months after they released Undertow. In it, Maynard James Keenan, Adam Jones and Danny Carey are being interviewed about the tour they're on with Rage Against the Machine, what it's like to have the video for "Sober" get airtime on MTV, and what it's like to play for young crowds.
None of those interview topics are very out of the ordinary, but TOOL — particularly Keenan — made sure to put their goofy, dry humor on full display. At one point, Rage guitarist Tom Morello is talking about beating up Keenan in their high-school gym class, offering a graphic description of their sweaty bodies rubbing together. Later in the segment, there are a couple awkward exchanges between Keenan and the Headbangers Ball host Riki Rachtman. Classic TOOL stuff. Watch above.
