New Jersey rockers Toothgrinder dropped a ferocious new LP, I Am, on Friday, and today (October 14th), they've offered up a video for its anthemic ripper "Wasp" showbasing the band doing what they do best: tearing it up live.
The straight-ahead clip — gorgeously directed by Jarrodd Anthonee — phases in and out of real-time movement, slowing down and highlighting the individual musicians for dramatic effect as they stomp and slam around the stage. The lighting and atmosphere emphasizes the intensity of the song, an enormous-sounding, crowd-pleasing banger that feels as heavy as it does emotionally resonant.
I Am is Toothgrinder's latest for Spinefarm Records, its title a phrase that singer Justin Matthews has said is meant to be "a mantra, a prayer, a mediation, a belief, a value, an all-encompassing way of life." "The title speaks of unity and presence," he explained. "Becoming comfortable in one's own skin. To endure whatever life throws at you with grace and gratitude.
