If you haven't yet listened to Turnstile's 2018 hit album Time & Space, don't let the jaunty jazz-muzak interlude "Disco" fool you. Once the LP's next cut "Time + Space" kicks in, the rising band is right back on it with its aggressively hooky, anthemic hardcore, rife with "ooh-oohs" and a smattering of sing-song "ahhs." Now the group has offered up a kinetic music video that echoes all the fun of the track, showing enthusiastic stage-divers at an actual Turnstile show somersaulting in reverse while the boys on stage rip shit up and have a blast doing so. Slow-motion split jumps and thrashing hair whips are entrancing to witness; the energy of the performance is frozen and abstracted in glacially paced scenes highlighting the magic of the crowd involvement.
Directed by photographer and skateboarder Atiba Jefferson with cinematographer Ty Evans, the clip is the band's second collaboration with the duo (following up August's memorable "Bomb / I Don't Wanna Be Blind" clip) and premiered earlier in November inside a Turnstile-curated installation at rapper Tyler, The Creator's Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California.
Starting today through mid-December, Turnstile are currently on tour, joining fellow highly touted hardcore upstarts Vein on a handful of dates, along with Angel Du$t and Every Time I Die. Find a list of the band's full itinerary below.
