See Turnstile Bring a Little "T.L.C." to NPR's 'Tiny Desk'

Baltimore hardcore champs rework seven 'Glow On' songs for intimate set

The phrase "Turnstile Tiny Desk" would have been a humorously hopeful moonshot just a couple years back, but now it's legitimately happened. The Baltimore hardcore champions — and current Revolver cover stars — have continued their victory lap after putting out 2021's best hardcore album, as well as the year's third best record overall. Last month, they made their TV debut by funneling the vigorous swagger they bring to their live shows onto Late Night with Seth Meyers, and now they've reconfigured their caffeinated approach for NPR's beloved series of intimate performances.

For the first "Tiny Desk (Home) Concert" of 2022, the band worked with visual artist and former Give vocalist John Scharbach to create a dazzling installation of stuffed animals in Turnstile drummer Daniel Fang's basement in Baltimore. The band posted up in front of the plushie wall of fame and zipped through seven Glow On cuts that were slightly reimagined for "Tiny Desk"'s softer, more homespun setting. Instead of darting around the stage and getting his groove on, frontman Brendan Yates sat before a Fender Rhodes piano and plinked along to songs like "Mystery" and "Alien Love Call," while guitarist Pat McCrory provided additional sound textures with a quirky stompbox.

It's still Turnstile, but just a little different. Check out the full set above via YouTube.
