See We Came as Romans Pay Tribute to Kyle Pavone at First Show Since His Death

Band honors late singer's legacy while on tour with Bullet for My Valentine

We Came as Romans have fulfilled their promise to stick to the tour they booked with Bullet For My Valentine and Bad Omens before the death of co-frontman Kyle Pavone in August, kicking things off last night at The Pageant in St. Louis, Missouri, with a short speech before launching into their song "Lost in the Moment." Vocalist Dave Stephens told the crowd, "This is something I wasn't sure we'd ever get to do again. I think it's what he would have wanted. I think it's the best way to honor his legacy." Stephens also remembered his fallen bandmate, who died of an accidental drug overdose. "One of the things that I admired most about him was his ability to not regret his past, not worry about his future, and live in the present and enjoy that moment because he believed things could change so quickly and those great things could be taken from you in a heartbeat," the singer said. The sentiment of Stephen's tribute was echoed in the song's lyrical sentiment: "This may be the last sunset I'll see/So I'll take it in, I'll take it in/This may be the last air that I'll breathe/I'll breathe it in, I'll breathe it in." Check out fan-filmed footage of the speech and performance above.

To commemorate Pavone's memory and help others struggling with addiction, the band created the Kyle Pavone Foundation late last month. Donations to the foundation will go toward aiding artists in their search for treatment and healing.
