It's been less than a week since System of a Down played their first show in two years, and the pandemic is already knocking them back off the saddle. The band have announced that frontman Serj Tankian has tested positive for COVID-19, and as a result, they're being forced to reschedule this weekend's headlining shows in Los Angeles.

The alt-metal titans were slated to perform at the Banc of CA Stadium on October 22nd and October 23rd with Korn, Helmet and Russian Circles. Now, those dates have been pushed back to February 4th and 5th of 2022.

"It is with great regret that we must reschedule our Los Angeles performances to February 4th and 5th, 2022," the band wrote in a statement shared to social media.

"Despite multiple precautionary measures, Serj has unfortunately tested positive for COVID. We're sorry to disappoint our amazing fans with this last minute news, as we could not wait to finally play for you."

"However," they continued, "the health of our band, crew, venue staff and all of our fans is our top priority. All tickets will be honored for the rescheduled dates. Refund availability will be sent to all ticket buyers via email."

In a follow-up post shared on his Instagram, Tankian expanded on the band's statement and offered his own apology to fans.

"After having three really fun shows, I got back to L.A. with flu-like symptoms," he wrote. "I am shocked that it could even be COVID, as I am not just vaccinated but also incredibly careful. I am so sorry to have to push these dates yet again, especially to those who made sacrifices to be here from out of town."

"Touring is not something I intend to continue doing down the line," he added. "So these handful of shows have meant the world to me. Thank you for your love and understanding."

Sadly, System of a Down aren't the only band who's suffering from these sudden cancellations. According to a Gofundme page shared by their label, Sargent House, show openers Russian Circles had all of their gear stolen prior to these concerts and are already bleeding out financially from a European tour that was recently canceled.
