Stoners everywhere, prepare your mourning blunts, because Sleep are going on indefinite hiatus after they play a set of three shows at Chicago's Thalia Hall on December 29th, 30th and 31st. A cryptic "transmission"-style tweet posted on November 10th lists the shows alongside a message, "prep hypersleep facil for indef duration," apparently confirming the band will take a well-deserved rest after several years of touring — as well as a 2014 single "The Clarity" and 2018 surprise album, The Sciences — introducing a new generation of fans to the stoner-doom greatness of the revered trio's droning, tripped-out sound.

Earlier this year, the group forged through a health scare involving guitarist Matt Pike and a partial toe amputation (which led to the cancellation of a full tour by his other band, High on Fire) to deliver two sets at Roadburn's 2019 edition. At one, they played The Sciences in full, at the other, their classic Holy Mountain, seemingly capping off a five-year cycle of comeback glory.

The band's official website, weedian.com, also displays the same green-lit message, with little other info appearing outside of a link to the Sleep Facebook page and a contact link. They've been quite active on social media throughout their European fall tour, from which they posted plenty of photo updates of their ever-changing surroundings as they traveled from city to city, wrapping at Desertfest Belgium on October 20th.

Tickets for the Chicago shows leading up to New Year's Eve are available through Sleep's Facebook events page, as well as on Eventbrite
