Slipknot Members Recorded Album's Worth of Unreleased Songs Together in 2008

Clown: "I've held on to them for 10 years because it hasn't been right, and I'm going to let you know now that it's feeling right"

In 2008 Slipknot returned after one of their trademark lengthy hiatuses to release their fourth LP, All Hope Is Gone. What you may not know is that during those sessions, four members of the band recorded 11 as-yet-unreleased songs, which has been effectively been sealed and buried for a decade. One of those members, guitarist Jim Root, actually made reference to the side project in a 2011 interview with Revolver, describing the music as a little more "cerebral" and "experimental." Shawn "Clown" Crahan resuscitated that storyline in a new interview with Metal Hammer, in which he indicated that fans might be hearing the lost songs, which he and Root recorded with singer Corey Taylor and DJ Sid Wilson, in the very near future.

"I've held on to them for 10 years because it hasn't been right, and I'm going to let you know now that it's feeling right," he said. "Is it Slipknot? No, it's not Slipknot. Is it four members of Slipknot? Yes. It's four members of Slipknot. Is it music being written at the same time as All Hope Is Gone? Absolutely."

Slipknot areĀ also slated to release a bona fide new album in 2019, and to promoteĀ that effort with a batch of weirdo music that was birthed alongside one of the band's most cherished relics certainly seems like a salient tactic. We'll keep our eyes peeled on both fronts.
