Slipknot Pay Tribute to Joey Jordison: "Without Him There Would Be No Us"

"Joey's impact on Slipknot is incalculable"

After taking a few days of silence to collect their thoughts, Slipknot have released an official statement on the death of their co-founder and former drummer, Joey Jordison. In a brief yet touching message posted to their social media accounts, the nu-metal titans expressed their love for Jordison as a person and their appreciation for his "incalculable" impact on the music they made together.

"Our hearts go out to Joey's family and loved ones at this time of tremendous loss," the statement begins. "Joey Jordison's art, talent, and spirit could not be contained or held back. Joey's impact on Slipknot, on our lives, and on the music that he loved, is incaclulable."

"Without him there would be no us. We mourn his loss with the entire Slipknot family. We love you, Joey."

Jordison passed away in his sleep on Monday July 26th, and news of his death was shared by his family the following day. His former band initially reacted by "blacking out" their social media pages, including members Corey Taylor, Shawn "Clown" Crahan and Jim Root posting black squares on their own respective pages.

However, until now, none of the members had publicly addressed the tragedy.

After making four records with them since co-founding in 1995, Jordison departed from Slipknot in 2013. At the time, the band stated that he had left the group due to personal reasons, which the drummer countered by saying that he was in fact fired. In 2016, Jordison revealed that he had been suffering from a condition called transverse myelitis since 2010, which impacted his ability to play drums toward the end of his time in the Iowa titans.
