Slipknot: See Clown Painfully Tear Bicep Onstage at Knotfest L.A.

Last night (November 11th), Slipknot played their headlining set at Welcome to Rockville festival in Daytona, Florida, but one member of the Nine was conspicuously absent from the stage. Now we know why.

In a new Instagram post, percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan revealed that he was unable to perform because he was undergoing surgery for a torn bicep tendon that he endured during Slipknot's November 5th set at Knotfest L.A.

Along with a few paragraphs explaining what happened, the 52-year-old posted a video of him wailing on his keg during the band's Knotfest set. As Clown points out in his caption, the precise moment when he injured himself is pretty obvious in the video.

After a few routine smacks on the instrument he's been using for decades, he takes a big swing and immediately crouches to the ground with his hand over his mouth, looking as if he's screaming in pain. Amazingly, he leaps right back up and continues walloping, but he appears to be grimacing and holding his arm in the way someone does when they know what just happened is going to hurt in the morning.

"Ladies and gentlemen," Clown wrote in the caption, "If you look close enough you can pinpoint the exact frame where clown completely tore the bicep tendon from the radial tuberosity with proximal retraction, proximal to the coronoid fossa of the humerus."

"With that being said," he continued, "You may have realized I was not on stage in Florida with my brothers and my culture tonight. For this fact I am saddened. I had surgery today in Los Angeles, everything went great and I am recovering peacefully."

"I can't express how happy and blessed I am to have been able to come back to touring after all that we as a community have been through the last couple years. And I promise we will see you all very soon. Thank you."

Fortunately, Slipknot don't have any more shows announced until April 2022, so Clown should have plenty of time to rest and recover before he hits the stage once again.
