Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor has been a Metallica fan for most of his life. The nu-metal frontman was turned onto the band when he was a young teenager and they played a strong role in informing his taste — and eventually his career — moving forward, so naturally, the man has a favorite Metallica track. During a fan Q&A session at the February 2022 edition of the Mad Monster Party convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, an audience member asked him to share his number one go-to for the thrash titans, and Taylor's choice was an unexpected deep cut.

"'Disposable Heroes,'" Taylor said without missing a beat. Although it sits squarely in the middle of Master of Puppets, one of the greatest and most beloved metal albums ever, it's one that sometimes gets overlooked in the track list alongside unbeatable ragers like "Battery" and "Master of Puppets."

"That song . . . you guys have got to remember, when that album came out [in 1986], I was young," Taylor continued, "and I walked to buy the tape at the local Sam Goodie, which, for some of you [who don't know] is a fucking record store and a longer story than I want to get into. So I walked to the local mall to buy the tape at Sam Goodie. I had my fucking Walkman with me and I listened to it all the way... Side One is a fucking clinic — such a clinic. Classic. So rad.

"And then I flipped the tape and that first song is fucking 'Disposable Heroes' and all of a sudden I just my head ripped off. I was just like, 'This is the greatest fucking song.' That riff is so stupid rad. I can't even fucking explain it. The song just kept building and building and building. Yeah, to this day it's my favorite fucking Metallica song. It's so rad."

Rip it below in Taylor's honor.
