Corey Taylor has finished recording his next solo album CMF2 and, according to him, it's "going to be the best rock album of this year, and the next." In a recent interview with NME, the Slipknot vocalist said that the new record — tentatively scheduled for release in September — pulls together songs from throughout his long career and has a "darker edge and harder tone" than 2020's CMFT.

"I can't wait for people to hear this album," Taylor said. "It chews up that first record and spits it out. It's more dialed-in with everything people expect from me, so it's got hints of CMFT but there are also hints of Slipknot, Stone Sour and all the stuff I've done in my acoustic shows. It's got everything for everybody. People are going to fucking lose it."

Sessions for CMF2 got underway in January at the Hideout in Las Vegas with Taylor and his band working with producer Jay Ruston (Anthrax, Amon Amarth). Together, they recorded 26 tracks over six weeks, which were then pared down to the 13 that will appear on the finished release.

"Some fans will recognize a few [of the tracks] from other projects that I've done while others were written just before we went into the studio," Taylor said. "I was really inspired by my band, but also the reaction that the first solo run had, where people leaned into everything. They liked the acoustic stuff, they liked the heavy stuff, they liked the fun stuff. We wanted to make a hybrid thing, but not have it feel chaotic."

"Beyond," the first single from CMF2 is tentatively set for a May release.
