From the carnivalesque nu-prog of early Mudvayne to the Southern-fried party-metal of Hellyeah, Greg Tribbett has lent his guitar work to a wide range of heavy sounds. Meanwhile, his other band Audiotopsy — which sees him playing with his Mudvayne drummer Matthew McDonough — excel in catchy, left-field–leaning alt-rock, as heard on their sophomore album, The Real Now.
Since he's clearly a music fan with diverse taste, we asked Tribbett to share some of the tunes that have helped him through his dark times for our continuing "Songs for Black Days" series, presented in partnership with Hope for the Day. Below is what he offered up.
Journey - "Open Arms"
What a powerful song — needing love is essential in life and I think it's well said here. Journey has a bunch of songs that move the world! Steve Perry sings amazing!
Led Zeppelin - "Ramble On"
Ya gotta keep rambling on! This says it all being in the music business. Ya can't let anything get ya down — just breathe in the life. I'm lucky.
Van Halen - "Runnin' With the Devil"
Sometimes you gotta just run with the devil! Live your life and have a good time! Life is short. I try to live in the now, not the past or future.
Otis Redding - "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay"
One of those songs that just says, "Take it easy." There's no rush in life. What a huge song!
Phil Collins - "I Don't Care Anymore"
